Maria was introduced to the game of golf by her parents Melville and Carolyn.  Her father Mel is a golf professional and taught Maria the game of golf.  She was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in the U.S.Virgin Islands.  Her home course was Mahogany Run Golf Resort home of the famous "Devil's Triangle"  She started playing golf at the age of eight and won the club championship at the age of twelve.  Maria's playing carrer in golf continued with competing on the AJGA Tour and local Caribbean tournaments.  She earned a full golf scholarship to play for Florida International University in Miami, FL.
